Own piece of old Sporting & Political history with this vintage Boxing Elephant ‘Republican Mascot Trophy Bottle’ Decanter produced by Regal China in 1964 for its 120-month old Beam bourbon whiskey, to commemorate that years’ United States presidential election for the 45th quadrennial presidential election – Held on Tuesday, November 3, 1964 – Where incumbent Democratic United States President Lyndon B. Johnson (Who took office on November 22, 1963, following the assassination of his predecessor John F. Kennedy) defeated Barry Goldwater, the Republican nominee. With 61.1% of the popular vote, Johnson won the largest share of the popular vote of any candidate since the largely uncontested 1820 election.

The elephant was first featured as a Republican symbol in a political cartoon and newspaper illustration during the Civil War, when “seeing the elephant” was an expression used by soldiers to mean experiencing combat.

There have been 19 Republican presidents in the United States since the party was founded in March 1854, such as Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, Richard M. Nixon, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, as well as incumbent president Donald Trump – The first Republican to win the presidency was Abraham Lincoln in 1861…

This Decanter is elaborately decorated by hand and armed for political battle.
